FRANCIEL MONTEIRO
Franciel Monteiro began his first comprehensive musical training in guitar with Claudio Weizmann at the Escola de Música do Estado in São Paulo, an institution that offers children from underprivileged families new life opportunities through both popular and classical music, a mission to which he would later return.
During his music studies at Fiamfaam, which directly followed his graduation, Henrique Pinto had the most significant influence on him. At the same time, he studied composition and guitar improvisation with Almeida Prado and Camilo Carrara.

After his studies, he took private lessons for three years with Fabio Zanon, Brazil's most renowned concert guitarist. During this time, Monteiro won numerous national and international competitions, among them first prizes at the 5th FENAVIPI Guitar Festival and Competition and the 1st Guitar Competition at the Cantareira Faculty, as well as second prizes in the international guitar competitions Vital Medeiros and La Paz.

In 2013, seeking new perspectives and further skill refinement, Monteiro moved his studies to Germany, completing an advanced artistic program at the Akademie für Tonkunst in Darmstadt under Tilman Hoppstock. In Frankfurt, he completed a master’s degree in artistic instrumental training in classical guitar at the University of Music and Performing Arts (HfMDK) in 2017, under Christopher Brandt. Subsequently, in 2019, he completed a degree in electric guitar with Michael Sagmeister, focusing on instrumental pedagogy.

His scientific-pedagogical master's thesis explored the recognition theory of Frankfurt sociologist Axel Honneth in connection with a social music project in Brazil, which provides children and young people access to music. This project is the very one where Franciel Monteiro received his first formal musical training.

He is also deeply involved in education, working as a guitar lecturer at the Akademie für Tonkunst in Darmstadt, teaching both in the municipal music school department and the vocational academy.
Artistically, Monteiro is active and engaged, having performed at significant Brazilian and international festivals such as the 40th International Winter Festival in Campos do Jordão, Movimento Violão, Aschaffenburg Guitar Days, and the Leo Brouwer Festival.

In 2016, he had the opportunity to present Villa Lobos' Guitar Concerto for Guitar and Small Orchestra in Costa Rica at the Festival Internacional de Música con Plectro. The following year, in 2017, he performed compositions by João Luiz Rezende Lopes, a member of the Brazil Guitar Duo. In 2018, Monteiro played with a guitar quartet in the Spanish Guitar series, sponsored by Sparkasse Frankfurt. In 2019, he performed with the Merck Philharmonic in Darmstadt.

As a versatile chamber musician, Franciel Monteiro has appeared in various ensemble settings. Notably, a fruitful collaboration with soprano Helene Böhme led to the formation of a permanent duo. The Bossa Nova Duo specializes in the genres of Bossa Nova and Jazz, with Monteiro arranging the adaptations himself. Due to the duo's classical training, they also include classical repertoire, developing a cross-over concept—a mutually enriching dialogue between different genres. Since its founding in 2015, the duo has been primarily active in Hesse, seizing opportunities to introduce themselves to the jazz world, such as at the dazz Festival Jazz Winter Festival 2019 and the Jazzfest of HfMDK in 2017.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the two musicians took the opportunity to release their first album, The Bossa Nova Duo - Double Rainbow, in 2021.

In 2022, together with his colleague Tilman Hoppstock, Monteiro was an instructor for a guitar chamber music project in Kosovo, culminating in a successful final concert. Students from 11 different countries participated in the project.

Franciel Monteiro is currently active as an electric guitarist in an Acid Jazz/Soul Funk project with a Christian background, whose first album was released in 2024. He is also involved in the "Darmstädter Gitarrentage" Festival and works as a dedicated guitar lecturer at the Akademie für Tonkunst, both in the Municipal Music School Department and the Vocational Academy.
